This week was full of the arts for little Isaac. He made it out to his first concert on Wednesday evening. Zootunes is a fun, summertime concert series in grass at the Woodland Park Zoo. B.I. (before Ike) we saw The Decemberists and Aimee Mann there which was tons 'o fun. It's great for the old folks (like me) b/c the show starts at 6 and has to end by 9:30pm (close to my bedtime) vs. the other shows around here which start at around 10 and end no earlier then 1am but often closer to 2am. This time we saw Andrew Bird. I had only heard a few songs here and there of his but Royal and Morgan and Jen love him so off we went. Isaac did not enjoy Josh Ritter, the opener, and decided to cry for most of his set. This was fine with me b/c I found him way too boring, but not fine for those around us. Luckily it's a very kid-friendly place so I took Isaac to the kids art section in the back (appropriate), calmed him down and fed him. He slept through most of Andrew Bird with only 1 more cry-fest and about 1/2 hour of baby-bouncing with the moms and dads on the sidelines. All and all fairly successful. Isaac dressed up for the show. He wore his fancy jeans, elbow padded, stripey, collar shirt and off-white hoodie. He fit in with the hipster families.
One problem with having a concert outside near the salty water and all the animals of the world is that it attracts birds. This wasn't so bad when we saw a bald eagle flying overhead, but it was pretty bad for the people who got pooped on by one of the many seagulls enjoying the mellow music. It was pretty funny, at least to those of us who weren't pooped on.
Today we visited our friend Nate for the opening of his art show. Nate used to work with Royal but is no finishing architecture school. He made these super happy, simple drawings using a crazy wooden tool he created. Isaac checked out the art, drank a little red wine, enjoyed the brie and looked fashionable in his red stripey socks, red pants, and gumby t-shirt.
Our small camera isn't working right now so photos are scarce, but there will be some mroe coming soon. Video too.
